The Rambling Reader
I took this photo at the sumit of Puig Es Caragoli (945m) in Mallorca.
Having reading and walking as my main hobbies has always struck me as bit pedestrian (ha!) and unimaginative. I mean, most people read or walk at some point. Going for a walk doesn’t have the same glamourous ring as, say, playing tennis or skiing. Reading doesn’t suggest the same skill level or erudition as watercolour painting or conversational Spanish.
Anyway, this is my effort at a blog that combines my two passions – a collection of rambles (sounds a bit more specialist than ‘walks’) that are inspired (very loosely) by favourite works of fiction.
I guess I ought to tell you something more about me, as that’s the title of this section. I live in Derbyshire in the UK, am a social researcher when not reading or walking (and sometimes when I am) and have a penchant for striped tops. If you are nosy, you can take a look at what is on my bookshelf.
This blog includes descriptions of walks I have planned and enjoyed. The descriptions and accompanying routes are for information and inspiration only. They should not be relied on as route guides. The author of this blog accepts no responsibility for anyone seeking to replicate the walks and all information is used at the your own risk. Before undertaking any walk, you should properly plan and prepare, including checking routes, terrain, access and weather. Ramblers has lots of useful tips and advice on navigation and staying safe when walking.
